  • 1. Charles Kemble (1819-74), Rector of Bath Abbey 1859-74. Compiled A Selection of Psalms and Hymns, Arranged for the Public Services of the Church of England (1853). In 1869 he commissioned Sir George Gilbert Scott to restore the Abbey, and contributed significant personal funds to the project. CD presumably contacted Kemble in advance of his public readings in Bath on 8 and 9 February 1867.
