1. The Honourable George Francis Stewart Elliot (1822-1901), barrister, historian, and civil servant. Son of Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 2nd Earl of Minto; brother of Lady Frances Anna Maria ("Fanny") Elliot, who married CD's friend Lord John Russell in 1841. Elliot was Private Secretary to his brother-in-law Russell when the latter was Foreign Secretary, 1859-65.
