Acknowledges receipt of her letter. Begs her to tell her mama,2 that I have no knowledge of the copyright law in its reference to painting and engraving.3

  • 1. Jane Grace Cattermole (1840-1901), the eldest of George Cattermole’s four surviving daughters; she had written to CD in July with news of her father’s death (Pilgrim Letters 12, p. 158).
  • 2. Clarissa Cattermole (1813-92).
  • 3. 2Mrs Cattermole was presumably exploring possible sources of income from her husband’s work; a review of the Institute of Painters in Water-Colour exhibition, commenting unfavourably upon the work of Cattermole’s son, Charles, noted George Cattermole’s remaining works were to be dispersed by sale at auction (The Times, 20 Feb 69).
