Monday Eleventh August 1845b

aMr Charles Dickens presents his compliments to Mr Lake, and regrets that he is engaged this morning. He is on the eve of leaving town for some days; and has an appointment which he cannot forego.

Mr Dickens thinks it right to add, in reference to the contents of Mr Willer's2 note of introduction, that he is not open to any proposal whatever from Mr Lake: his plans and habits being wholly removed from any connexion witha bsuch a project as Mr Lake has in contemplation. . . he is not the less obliged to Mr Lake for the favor of his intended proposal.b
