Extract from Pichot’s translation, Le Neveu de ma Tante, Histoire Personelle de David Copperfield, Paris, 1857. The text presumably Pichot’s translation; of CD’s letters to him, only those in Le Neveu are in French.

David Copperfield est l’enfant de mon coeur; je vous remercie pour ce que vous avez fait pour lui.2

1. Amédée Pichot (1795-1877), novelist and editor of the Revue Britannique; had known CD since 1843 and translated him extensively: see Pilgrim Letters 3, p. 501 & n.
2. The extract appears below the dedication to Richard Watson. CD’s own copy of the translation’s 3rd edn (Paris, 1851) is in the BL. This earlier edition includes extracts from CD’s letters to Pichot, 7 June 43 (Pilgrim Letters 3, p. 501) and 10 Apr 45 (Pilgrim Letters 4, p. 293), but not this extract.
