- 1. Edmund Henry Dickens (1849-1910), son of CD's younger brother, Alfred Lamert Dickens (1822-60). He later became an engineer, and worked for the Telegraph Construction and Maintenance Company. After Alfred's death CD provided financial assistance to his widow, Helen, and her children. In April 1868 CD sent Edmund a present of £25, and expressed a hope that "he will strive to do credit to his name, and will always remember that it is a trust he holds" (Pilgrim Letters 12, p. 88). He attended CD's funeral on 14 June 1870.
