Date: Handwriting and signature confirm early 1860s.
- 1. Edward Peter De Gex (1812-79; sometimes Dé Gex), solicitor; became partner (1852) in the firm Austen & De Gex, of 4 Raymond Buildings, Gray's Inn, and dealt with the affairs of CD's sister Letitia after the death of her husband, Henry Austin (see Pilgrim Letters 9, p. 550 & nn). For CD's dealings with Edward De Gex concerning the lease of a property occupied by Letitia Austin see Pilgrim Letters 9, pp. 479, 481 (To Mrs Henry Austin, 17 & 23 Oct 1861). CD was friends with Edward's brother, John Peter De Gex (1809-87), barrister and law reporter.
