- 1. Edward Frederick Leeks (1810–65), solicitor; Secretary of the St Ann’s Society, a charity that provided education, clothing, and shelter for children of parents who had once been wealthy. In May 1843 CD was invited by Leeks to the Society’s dinner, held on 10 May, with Lord Morpeth in the chair (see Pilgrim Letters 3, p. 485); he could not attend, as it clashed with the Literary Fund dinner, which CD had also already accepted (Pilgrim Letters 3, p. 468), but which he evidently did not attend.
