  • 1. Probably Francis Lewis Shaw Merwether (1811-99; Australian Dictionary of Biography). Translated Paul de Kock’s “The Secret” from the French (Bentley’s Miscellany, Oct 1837, II, 360-9). Emigrated to New South Wales (1838), where he became an immigration agent and a member of the Legislative Council (1851-65).
