- 1. George Cruikshank (1792-1818; Oxford Dictionary of National Biography), graphic artist, caricaturist and illustrator of CD’s Sketches by Boz, Mudfog Papers, The Memoirs of Joseph Grimaldi, and Oliver Twist.
- 2. At the head of the page Cruikshank had written to CD with his request: “My Dear Dickens | I know you will oblige me with your autograph for a young Lady | Yours truly | GEORGE CRUIKSHANK”
