- 1. The cheque in question was for one of two possible transactions: either to Brown, Buckley & Co, East India brokers, in the amount of £2.3s.6d, on behalf of CD's son Walter (who was then in Bengal), or to the chiropodist Mark Wolff, for 6 guineas (MS Messrs Coutts).
