Mr. Charles Dickens presents his compliments to Mr. Hutchins, and begs to trouble him with the enclosed draft for £5 in favor of Mrs. Burbury.2 Mr. Dickens is informed by that lady that Mr. Hutchins has the goodness to receive such subscriptions.

1. William Hutchins (1782-1879), of 25 Hanover Square.
2. Edwina J. Burbury (c. 1817-70), miscellaneous writer; was assisted by various writers and by appeals to subscribers to support “herself and her young family” (see further Pilgrim Letters 7, p. 636, n. 2); she made several appeals to the Royal Literary Fund between 1850 and 1866. CD’s Account-book (MS Messrs Coutts) shows a payment of £5 for Mrs Burbury, 16 June.
